Vivian Maier was a highly secretive woman and even those closest to her had no idea of her amazing talent for photography. The French-American nanny captured life around her and on her travels on her Rolleicord camera but the fascinating collection was kept behind locked doors. It was only when her photographs were bought by chance at an auction in 2007 that they were seen by the outside world. Launched globally shortly after her death in 2009, the world immediately stood up and took notice. The collection has been exhibited worldwide and a film documenting her work, 'Finding Vivian Maier' was nominated for an Oscar and numerous other awards this year.
